Pre - installation Preparation

Before installing aluminum fixed glass windows, thorough preparation is essential. First, the window opening in the building structure needs to be carefully inspected and measured. The opening must be square, level, and plumb to ensure a proper fit for the window unit. Any irregularities, such as uneven walls or damaged framing, should be corrected before installation.

All necessary tools and materials should be gathered, including the aluminum fixed glass window unit, insulation, sealants, adhesives, screws, and shims. Safety equipment, such as gloves and safety glasses, should also be on hand for the installers. The glass panes should be carefully inspected for any damage during transit, and the aluminum frame should be checked for any defects or misalignments.

 Frame Installation

The aluminum frame is the first component to be installed. It is placed into the prepared window opening, and its position is adjusted using shims to ensure it is perfectly level and plumb. A spirit level is used to check the alignment of the frame both horizontally and vertically.

Once the frame is in the correct position, it is secured to the building structure. For wooden frames, screws are driven through the frame into the wall studs. In the case of masonry or concrete walls, anchors are used to provide a secure attachment. The screws or anchors are placed at regular intervals as per the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the stability of the frame. After the frame is firmly attached, the gaps between the frame and the wall are filled with insulation material, such as foam insulation, to improve energy efficiency and prevent air leakage.

 Glass Installation

With the frame in place, the glass panes are then installed. The glass is carefully lifted and positioned within the frame, ensuring that it fits snugly. Structural glazing adhesives are applied to the frame channels, and the glass is pressed firmly into place, ensuring a secure bond. The adhesive is allowed to cure according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Sealants are then applied around the perimeter of the glass within the frame to create a watertight and airtight seal. The sealant is carefully smoothed to ensure a uniform and aesthetically pleasing finish. Any excess sealant is removed, and the window is left to dry completely.

 Trim and Finishing

Finally, the interior and exterior trim is installed around the aluminum fixed glass window. Exterior trim, such as sill pans, head flashing, and jamb extensions, is attached to the frame to provide a weather - tight seal and enhance the appearance. Interior trim, such as moldings or casings, is installed to cover the gaps between the frame and the wall and to create a finished look.

The trim is secured in place using screws or nails, and any gaps or joints are filled with caulk for a seamless finish. The entire window installation is then inspected to ensure that all components are properly installed, the glass is secure, and the seals are effective.
